[MLS] Summer Legal Intern

Major League Soccer (MLS) seeks innovative, talented and passionate students to contribute to the growth of Soccer in North America. MLS's legal department provides strategic advice to support and facilitate the organization’s progress, while protecting MLS's interests and mitigating risks. Located at the League Office Headquarters in New York City, the Summer Intern Program is a 10-week program that runs from June 3rd-August 5th.  Interns will be a part of an inclusive culture that encourages teamwork and collaboration, values diversity and promotes creativity.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Research legal issues related to soccer and other sports leagues.

  • Create initial drafts of agreements (e.g., license agreements, training facility agreements, SOWs, NDAs, marketing/influencer agreements, etc.) on MLS templates.

  • Shadow members of the legal team across deal negotiations (e.g., stadium license agreements, content distribution, sponsorships, etc.).

  • Make PowerPoint presentations and decks for legal trainings and other legal updates for MLS and MLS Clubs.

  • Perform filing, document management functions, and other administrative tasks as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Undergraduate rising senior

  • Recent college graduate

  • Currently enrolled in a post-graduate program

REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • Superior organization, project management skills and attention to detail

  • High level of commitment to quality work product and organizational ethics, integrity and compliance

  • Ability to work effectively in a fast paced, team environment

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate, both written and verbally

  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook

  • Demonstrated decision making and problem-solving skills

  • Detail-oriented with the ability to multi-task and meet deadlines with minimal supervision

  • Must commit to attend full 10-week program

  • Bilingual in Spanish or French a plus

Major League Soccer offers an hourly salary of $20 based on a 40-hour work week.

Role is based in New York.
