[NFL] Undergraduate Summer Intern (CA)

NFL Summer Internship Program participants have the opportunity to contribute to the organization's success while receiving an unmatched, behind-the-scenes learning experience. Though interns work within specific departments, they can explore all aspects of the business of professional football through challenging project assignments, speaker presentations, mentoring relationships, and networking opportunities.

The summer program covers a minimum of 10 weeks, from June 9 - August 15, 2025.  Interns will be required to work five (5) full days (approximately 40 hours) per week. Interns will be paid an hourly rate for their work.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Strong work ethic

  • Strong organizational skills

  • Proficient in Word, PowerPoint, Excel

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Particular interest in the Sports, Entertainment and/or Media industries is a plus

  • Applicants must be legally permitted to work in the United States and international students must have all visas and employment authorizations before the start of the internship

  • Undergraduate junior graduating Winter 2025 or Spring 2026 with a minimum GPA of at least 3.0. Academic transcripts (official or unofficial) will be requested. 

DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTIONS:

AUDIENCE DEVELOPMENT

The Audience Development team is uniquely positioned within the NFL Media group to offer a valuable and educational experience for any student interested in how the NFL Media business functions, including deep insight into content development, content production, platform distribution, performance analysis, and the strategy that drives all of our resource investments.  Additionally, the role will provide insight into how NFL Media supports the 32 NFL Teams via content and platform insights as well as audience engagement strategies.  Interns will learn how we employ analytics-based decision making to determine both how we can optimize NFL programming as well as uncovering new opportunities to reach fans in an ever-expanding media landscape. The role will have the opportunity to work with a variety of departments, including Business Development, International Marketing, NFL Media Product, NFL Media Engineering, Media Intelligence, Integrated Sales, Football Ops, Consumer Insights, and the 32 NFL Clubs.   

Responsibilities:

  • Audience Analysis:

    • Intern will assist Audience Insights team in performance analysis of NFL-produced content and NFL digital platforms 

    • Responsible for applying qualitative metadata to key content across all digital platforms 

    • Priority focus on identifying content that engages youth and female audiences 

    • Develop insights and presentations  

  • Cross-platform Content Strategy:

    • Assist in development of a holistic content distribution strategy across NFL Media platforms 

    • Work across Product, Programming, Content, and Business Development teams to document platform requirements and 2023 opportunities 

    • Support development of new content, including new podcasts for the NFL Podcast Network 

  • International Expansion:

    • Opportunity to help develop an international content strategy that leverages the content and distribution platforms operated by NFL Media

    • Work closely with content and business leads across the NFL to define key content types that help achieve business goals in international markets

    • Develop localization strategy for existing or planned content that helps drive both football participation and general football education in key markets

    • Perform deep-dive analysis of PlayFootball YouTube channel to provide insights into content gaps and future ideas for flag and tackle football educational curriculum 

    • Refine content/program measurement & KPIs for stakeholders across Media, Business, and Marketing 

CULTURE & BUSINESS OPERATIONS

The Culture & Business Operations team is focused on NFL LA office internal communications, team culture initiatives and programs, and key cross-functional projects across the LA office and NFL Media with a focus on workplace engagement at the Inglewood office, directly across from SoFi Stadium. This position works closely with LA leadership team, Human Resources, Culture Committee, and Employee Resource Groups at the NFL LA office.

Culture & Business Operations Summer Intern Responsibilities:

  • Support operations around NFL LA Community Impact programs (Sports Content Lab, NFL Good Neighbor, Sports Media Sessions) including staff volunteer sign-ups, program coordination and communications

  • Coordinate communications calendar pertaining to LA-specific programs, NFL Media business priorities and DE&I & ERG initiatives 

  • Organize and manage NFL LA employee communications with content planning, copywriting and light design/layout (LA newsletter, microsite, in-office monitors, staff meetings)

  • Assist with NFL Media communications and all-hands around business plan updates and progress heading into the season

  • Support Culture Committee and ERG programs and assist with coordination of on-campus culture-based activities throughout the year

  • Partner with various League departments in assisting with broader League-wide employee programs as they roll out to staff in the LA office

  • Assist in supporting NFL Media business plan priorities, DE&I goals and measures of success

DIRECT TO CONSUMER (DTC)

The NFL Media Direct-To-Consumer (DTC) Group is a new business segment within NFL Media tasked with building a closer connection between fans and the world's most exciting sports and entertainment experience, The National Football League. NFL Media DTC products combine world-class content with cutting edge technology to drive deeper engagement with fans wherever they are, from the stadium to their home, on any device. 

The DTC Intern will support the team in identifying growth initiatives to acquire, engage, and retain the paid DTC subscriber base across the NFL’s and 32 Clubs’ portfolio of products. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Assessment of short-term and long-term content strategy for NFL Media properties 

  • Prepare executive updates on NFL+ business performance for senior level leadership 

  • Provide analytical support on major initiatives to achieve the strategic goals of the NFL’s DTC business 

  • Collaborate with internal partners across the NFL and 32 Clubs to identify, develop, and garner support for initiatives that grow the value of the DTC business 

  • Work cross-functionally with the GamePass International team to support the broader NFL DTC ecosystem, including:

  • Evaluating/auditing GPI placements on NFL owned and operated platforms (e.g., NFL.com)

  • Collaboration with the social/content domestic content teams to incorporate GPI posts in their promotion

GRAPHICS

  • Design and animate motion graphics for television broadcast and digital. 

  • Essential duties include developing concepts, generating iterations of a “look”, and providing daily support for live shows and digital media. 

  • Responsible for designing and animating logos, style frames, creating 2D and/or 3D content. This position works directly with the Graphics Department Art Director and/or Creative Director. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Projects will include: 

  • Various shows for off-season, Pre-season Games, Exclusive Games off-season dev, Gameday Dev, Daily support and more.   

  • Design/Animate Motion Graphics according to the needs or demands of the various NFL Network shows and NFL+. 

  • Under the direction of the Art Director, generate designs, animations, and motion graphics to be used in NFL Network shows and for NFL+. 

  • Perform the duties of designing both 2D and 3D images/animations.

MEDIA FINANCE

This position will assist the Finance department in working with departments across NFL Media.  The successful candidate will assist with financial planning efforts, perform research and analysis, as well as interact with NFL Media personnel as needed.  They will get to work closely with both Financial and non-Financial professionals across the League to complete quarterly closes, forecasts, various special projects and ad hoc requests.   

Finance Summer Intern Responsibilities: 

  • Financial Planning and Analysis including basic modeling and updates to quarterly forecast 

  • Quarterly close tasks including preparation of journal entries and variance explanations 

  • Review of legal agreements 

  • General Ledger research 

  • Accounts Payable tasks including invoice reconciliation 

  • Ad hoc projects as assigned 

NEWS 

The NFL Media Group is seeking an intern to learn and assist the Assignment Desk in all phases the newsgathering process for both on-air and digital content. 

Responsibilities:

  • Ability to multi-task and help with daily assignments 

  • Strong football knowledge and awareness of NFL events and stories, ability to quickly identify players and coaches. 

  • Demonstrate strong communication skills both verbally and written 

  • Able to use social media as a source of sports news 

NEXT GEN STATS

NFL player tracking technology, also known as Next Gen Stats (NGS), is the capture of real time location data, speed and acceleration for every player, every play on every inch of the field. Sensors throughout the stadium track tags placed on players' shoulder pads, charting individual movements within inches. The Next Gen Stats group is dedicated to the capture, analysis, and dissemination of this data for consumption by NFL clubs and media partners.

The Next Gen Stats group is seeking a data analyst intern to help develop business intelligence (BI) dashboards that help researchers unearth compelling insights from a robust database of advanced on-field statistics. The ideal candidate will have a background in data analysis and visualization while being an avid football fan with extensive knowledge of the players and game. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Develop, enhance, and maintain Next Gen Stats research dashboards using Amazon QuickSight and other analytical tools.

  • Collaborate with engineers, data scientists, and research analysts to ideate and implement new stats and visualizations for enhancing the understanding of the game.

  • Research and develop original storylines and data points for statistical analysis, supporting the generation of content across NFL Network, NFL.com, NFL social channels as well as NFL Media partners.

  • Participate in regular review sessions to present dashboard designs, findings, and innovations to the Next Gen Stats team, with opportunities to showcase work to the broader NFL production and technology groups.

  • Assist in data quality control, ensuring accuracy and consistency in the stats provided to stakeholders.

ORIGINAL CONTENT & DEVELOPMENT 

The NFL Media group is seeking a versatile and innovative creative producer/editor to work with the content team.  

Responsibilities:

  • Be creative and develop new NFL content

ORIGINAL CONTENT & ENTERTAINMENT

The Original Content and Entertainment department is the storytelling engine for the NFL. This group also plays a critical role in how NFL Media contributes to the League's entertainment events, including the Super Bowl Halftime Show.  This group partners across the broader NFL organization to lead our content development and production efforts for cause initiatives, including Social Responsibility, Social Justice, and other important awareness and appreciation efforts. Additionally, this group is responsible for the award-winning series ‘NFL:360.

Responsibilities:

  • The opportunity to learn all aspects of sports television production from our team of producers 

  • Gain the skills of research and pre-production of stories, pulling and compiling footage, scripting and story producing, editing, and pitching

PHOTO 

NFL Media is seeking a summer Intern to join our photo team. The Photo department provides exclusive imagery for all NFL departments and clubs. The NFL internship will focus on capturing photo content, learning NFL workflows and growing as a photographer. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Assist photo team with daily photo editor needs to meet O&O, Club, marketing, and PR needs 

  • Attend and assist on events as needed, from rookie premiere to preseason games. Communicate with photographers on assignments, provide photo coverage, edit and transmit on site in real time. 

  • Maintain documentation of current and available templates. Check stylized templates for accuracy and make adjustments as needed.  

  • Build shot list for photographers for all games and events, communicate with various departments to ensure all photo needs are represented. Assist with distribution of game day images to stakeholders.  

  • Assist with project management and photo research for cross-departmental projects. 

  • Support League initiatives with social and O&O photo essay content. Develop weekly content plan for photo essays and NFL Focus Instagram account. Maintain photo landing page with up to date featured content. Communicate with Programming team to promote content. 

  • Assist with maintaining in-house image archive and distribution of NFL images. Ensure proper archival of incoming images from games, events, and photoshoots. 

SOCIAL & INFLUENCER MARKETING 

The NFL is currently seeking a summer intern to join the NFL’s Social and Influencer Marketing department, to help service the larger team. The S&I intern will support across the department with focus on the social creative team, player social marketing and the influencer/creator program. The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of and passion for the National Football League, its member Clubs and Players, and social media. 

Responsibilities:

  • Monitor social media trends from an editorial and graphic perspective

  • Research and Asset management for Social Editorial and Graphic Teams

  • Assist in preparing slides for presentation and meeting decks

  • Support in the production of upcoming NFL campaign shoots (i.e. NFL Flag, etc.)

  • Help with the preparation of the League’s offseason player workshop event 

  • Support team in ideating offseason content opportunities for players and creators around the League’s key priorities

  • Work with the larger team to identify new and upcoming content creators 

  • Support with one-off projects for the larger Social & Influencer Marketing Department

STUDIO OPERATIONS & PRODUCTION MANAGEMENT

The Operations and PM team support all our live and taped content, across all platforms - logistics, technical, and budgetary needs. 

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with studio catering, craft service orders, restocking Green Room areas as needed. 

  • Organize and asset tag production supplies and props into the production service catalog.  

  • Work directly with Production Coordinators to generate production documents and booklets for all studio shows and remote events. 

  • Assist with live or pre-tape productions as needed. 

  • Coordinates and executes administrative support including show planning, research and logistics. 

  • Various production and administrative responsibilities related to studio and remote shows. 

TALENT MANAGEMENT 

The Summer Intern, Talent Management & Events, will provide overall support to the NFL Media Talent Management Department. This includes administrative tasks, scheduling, expense management, and Talent Relations team support. 

Responsibilities:

  • Assist VP with scheduling of Talent and agent meetings 

  • Provide backup support for Sr Manager working in the Talent Management Department; coverage areas include H/M/W operations, schedules, Talent and production requests.

  • Assist with Talent travel and logistics. 

  • Assist with monthly scheduling of Hair/MU/Wardrobe teams. Requires coordination with Production team

  • Assist Talent with Expense reports 

  • Assist with the preparation of key NFL Media events and initiatives such as NFL Training Camp, Talent Summit and Broadcast Bootcamp. Including logistics & planning, ensuring all Talent needs are met.

SALARY/PAY RANGE:

The NFL expects to hire for this position near the middle of the range. Only in truly rare and exceptional circumstances, where an external candidate has experience, credentials or expertise that far exceed those required or expected for the position, would the NFL consider paying a salary or rate near the higher end of the range.
