[CHICAGO CUBS] Corporate Counsel
The Corporate Counsel is a critical player in the Chicago Cubs Legal Department and will provide legal support to business units across the Chicago Cubs organization and its affiliated entities. The position will report directly to the Associate General Counsel and will provide support on all legal matters, including drafting, reviewing and negotiating routine agreements, assisting in corporate and transactional workload, and litigation support. This position will require excellent business judgment, adept problem-solving and strategic thinking, with an ability to work independently and collaboratively in a collegial, fast-paced environment.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Review, draft and negotiate a variety of agreements including vendor services and programming agreements, commercial agreements, waivers, event contracts, non-disclosure agreements, marketing and sponsorship agreements, technology and software agreements, suite licenses, and real estate agreements
Advise and assist on advertising and marketing initiatives, including sweepstakes, contests and promotions, and privacy matters, including drafting rules, releases, and reviewing promotional and creative materials
Assist with developing, implementing and improving policies and compliance procedures company wide
Assist with corporate governance and corporate finance matters, as requested
Support legal team with the management of various litigation matters, including by assisting with legal research and document production
Ensure and monitor compliance with contractual obligations and relevant law, including privacy and data protection laws and regulations
Assist with administering and supporting the legal department’s contract management system
Support business partners with respect to legal issues surrounding operations
Help facilitate the day-to-day operations and workload of an in-house legal department
Work closely with and assist General Counsel, Deputy General Counsel, Associate General Counsel, and other legal team members
All other duties, as assigned
REQUIREMENTS:
Experience drafting and reviewing contracts required
Juris Doctor degree from an ABA accredited law school and admission to practice in Illinois
Two to four years of legal experience required, preferably with an in-house legal department
Experience in legal matters related to event and facility operations, commercial contracts, labor and employment, data privacy, intellectual property, and/or advertising initiatives encouraged
Superior written and oral communication skills, including ability to translate legal reasoning for non-lawyers
Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to build strong, collaborative and consultative relationships with key business partners
